I met Justin a year after returning from what can only be described as the trip of a lifetime.
Starting in Perth, Western Australia my Mum and I ventured west to the east coast of Africa visiting Kenya to witness first hand the annual migration and see African elephants roam the Masai Mara - a dream I'd held since I was 8 years old. We then toured Uganda sleeping on the banks of the Nile river taking day trips to Rwanda, visiting Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre and the Democratic Republic of the Congo where I would find myself walking within metres of wild Mountain Gorillas.
We visited Egypt before parting ways and I found myself on the other side of the world in sunny London. It was the first time in my life I had truly been alone, though it wasn't for long. Within the hour I had made plenty of new friends and I settled into my new temporary life. For the next 12 months I would also attend the 200th Oktoberfest in Munich, ANZAC celebrations in Gallipoli and celebrate New Years Scottish style with Hogmanay in Edinburgh.
I travelled through the most of Western Europe with a side of the East before returning home in August 2011, a year after I'd left. Lot's of things had changed while I had been away. Well maybe they hadn't, but I surely had. I was worldly and cultured. I'd stepped out of my comfort zone and I had survived!!
So it wasn't long before I decided it was time to leave again. I'd save for a year and head east to the west coast of South America - only I met a boy. Not just any boy either but my soul mate and I asked him to runaway with me. Luckily he said yes and while I have been delayed by a slight few months (or 12), in 100 days the wait will be over and we'll be off. Running away together to the other side of the world with our backpacks and dreams.
